Our Story

Crimp was conceived on the back of two ideas. The first was a long-held dream to create a range using sustainable, high quality Australian merino wool. The second was creating versatile, ‘for all seasons’ head wear that keeps your precious noggin warm and snug in winter, and protects your skin from those damaging sun rays all year round.

The inspiration for the material and colours for Crimp is drawn from our family sheep property, ‘Waterview’, on North Bruny Island, Tasmania. Bruny Island (Lunawanna-Alonnah) is a magically wild place, with pockets of agriculture nestled in between dramatic, rocky coastlines and unspoiled native landscapes.

Philosophy

While life should be lived in the fast lane, we think fashion should be slowwwww. At Crimp, we’re about fashion for life: we’re for hand-me-downs, for grandma’s knitted socks and for your favourite pair of old boots that fit just right. We want you and your Crimp to be lifelong pals.

At Crimp, we advocate for fashion that makes people and the environment a priority, rather than an afterthought. To stay true to this, we have endeavoured to be as sustainable and as local as possible. Each hat was designed and made in Melbourne, using merino wool grown in Australia.

Why we love wool

The world’s finest quality merino wool is grown in Australia’s own backyard. And that’s not the only reason why we love it! Wool is a natural, renewable and bio-degradable fibre that is free from the petrochemicals and plastics that make up synthetic materials. It’s also both breathable and a natural insulator, meaning it’s perfect for either hot summer days or icy cold winters.

Crimp = the waviness of the wool fibres. This helps to determine the attributes and quality of a fleece. Wool is highly durable and its natural crimp means that it’ll retain its strength and quality, so you’ll never have to chuck it out.

Long story short, Crimp will be your long-lasting, sustainable staple for all of life’s great adventures!

The founders

We’re a sister-brother duo. Our family own a sheep farm on Bruny Island, Tasmania, so we’ve always been engaged in knowing the origins of what you eat, and what you wear. We share a belief that true quality comes from the care, love and hard work applied to each step in the process, rather than simply the finished product.

Outside of Crimp, Bec is a Planning Consultant who specialises in renewable energy projects and Louis is currently completing a Masters in environmental policy and economics.
